Vaccinations – Oh, Yes You Can!

A local Veterinarian charges $20 for a routine Dog vaccination… but he also insists on an “Office Visit charge” too.
The Total for a Routine Vaccination from him is $80.00
BUT I CAN BUY IT AND DO IT MYSELF FOR $8.00  YES, THAT’S EIGHT DOLLARS.  AND SO CAN YOU!

The Standard Dog Vaccinations, from Puppy to Adult, and all in-between, are available for you to buy and administer yourself!   It is really not that big a deal.  They are only “Sub-Q” injections; that means “subcutaneous”.  (Subcutaneous is the same injection method as Insulin injections for a Diabetic – it’s a very small needle.)   The dogs hardly notice it  and, if you have them busy doing something like licking some Peanut Butter as a distraction, it bothers mine less than a bee-sting would…. much less, actually.   Some are IM, “intra-muscular” which is actually even easier.    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaccination_of_dogs

WHERE TO BUY THEM?  Tractor Supply Company (which is primarily a Farm and Animal-person kind of store chain).

SOUTHERN STATES FARM SUPPLY   They do not display on their web site, because they are not carried by all store locations. Go here., find your local stores, call and ask.  The name may be “Durvet” or may be “Solo-jec” ..Canine Vaccines.

FOSTER & SMITH    They are on-lone only, I believe.  There are different rules for SOME states for shipping. I asked them, by “LiveHelp”, if I have to provide a Vet prescription in order to purchase these vaccines. She said for MY state, I DO NOT.   And she also said:

Patty P: No, residents of CT, DE, IL, MN, NH, NJ, and NY require a prescription from a vet, for the single dose vaccine because they include a syringe and needle.

** Rabies shots have to be given by a Vet. But it is fine to have this done at a “Rabies Clinic”.  Probably available a few times per year in your area.  Rabies vaccinations have to be registered, recorded, and you have to be given a Tag and a little certificate.
