The Mudding
Ahhhh…. such a Glorious thing…. the snows slowly melt, the ice recedes, the Earth warms, the Robins return. It’s the Time of Year that I like to call . . . . .
And it’s enough to make a Dog Parent want to blow their brains out! Me and Mine live on Three Dog-Proof-Fenced Acres of Woods and lots of it is MUD right now. When we’re lacking Mud – “certain dogs” (ahem! Miss Angel) like to make their own by SITTING!!! in the Gold Fish pond and then tromping in the dirt.
So what do I do? Preemptive Measures! I do not hope for the best…. I KNOW what’s coming. And I do what I can to make my Home, Floors, Car and Furniture Dog-Proof…ish!
I’d rather do something to protect my bed, for example… than deprive them of the fun and relaxation of being on it. I tried several things that did not work until I found the solution. A VERY substantial vinyl (“pleather”). Light weight versions didn’t work; the dogs crumbled them up and the bed was no longer covered.
I cruised Ebay until I found this: TEXTILE_SPECIALIST DIRECT I ordered a really strong, heavy type. I got FIVE YARDS for under $30. That’s Fifteen Feet of it and it is 54 inches Wide. I cut it into two, 7 1/2 Foot pieces. One covers the top half of my Queen Size Bed, and the other overlaps and covers the foot of the bed. I got the Taupe color, but they actually have lots of choices.

5 YARDS BEIGE MARINE OUTDOOR AUTO FABRIC BOAT UPHOLSTERY 54″WIDE VINYL
ITEM PRICE: US $28.50 Shipping was about $18.00 for me; it came rolled up on a cardboard tube.
The underside of it is like canvas – I did not want something slippy and slidy on the side against the bed. This stays in place well. When I am home, I just lay them on the bed, when I’m leaving and I think there might be serious Puppy Play, I tuck it in all around. I made a rule for myself that I never place it on the floor; so I always know the underside is always clean and ok to be against my bedding. Clean-up is just spray with my handy Bleach Pill Disinfectant Mixture (see a couple Posts down) and wipe with a rag. I fold them and put them away for bed time. This Vinyl has lots of other possibilities for mess-proofing parts of your Home.
THIS WAS EPISODE 1 OF THERE WILL BE LOTS MORE IDEAS ON HOW TO SURVIVE IT WITHOUT GOING POSTAL!
HERE’S THE HAPPY ENDING!
